Republic Day Review

She was born in, the India that was not shining; an Adivasi family in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri District and could not afford to go to school. At 14 she lied about her age, on the instructions of her employers, to get a job as a Tea Plucker as children under 16 were not allowed to pluck tea. She decided to remain unmarried to support her family and at 42, she continues to work as a tea plucker on daily wages. Her 8-hour work begins at the dawn and if she works hard enough she can earn upto 50 Rupees 90 Paise in a day, which she often misses these days for she has to represent the Sola Nagar Khata constituency in the West Bengal Assembly.
Ms. Sukhmait Oraon, the CITU leader, is taking power to the grass roots.

On the 58th Republic Day, we are at least limping, if not roaring, ahead.

In India, it's often the Left who do the right things.

In Kerala both the major political formations used to speak in a left of centre tone, till recently. Again you are true, Kerala is very unlike the remaining parts of India.

But sir dont u think that the policies that are followed by the govt in West Bengal, one of the powerhouses of Left, are wrong?? The Polit Bureau says something about the usage of agricultural land in SEZs and the govt in west bengal doing exactly the opposite when it came to the land acquisitions at places like Singur for industrial projects.. And the fun part is that the same Polit Bureau sided with the policies of WB govt..They were talking high about the compensation package that the WB govt gave to the displaced farmers.

In fact I can not digest the very concept of SEZs, farm land or no farm land. Here we see the Government of the people surrendering to the black mailing of the wealthy, may be one day people will begin to eat cars instead of farm products.
